Caustic Shadows

  • Level: 4
  • Special Requirements: Caster’s Blood, Obsidian Blade
  • Casting Time: 10 Seconds
  • Cost: 1 WP + 1 Health Level (Lethal)
  • Rolls: Manipulation + Shadows (diff 8) & Shadows + Power (diff 8)
  • Effects: This spell turns the standard shadows into terrifying weapons, causing them to deal real damage in addition to their usual frightening effect of choking and suffocating anyone they cover. These shadows deal Path + 1 Damage to anything that requires air to live.
  • Side-Effects: Where the caster cuts themselves, the blood turns black and emits what looks like a mixture of smoke and shadow. The veins around the wound turn black as well and fade slowly over a period of about a week. Using this again before then causes the darkness to spread deeper inside…
  • Notes: This functions like the “Smoke” variant from Hellfire.

Conceal

  • Level: 2
  • Special Requirements: Small items must be prepared in advance with a black ribbon that has been treated with walnut oil.
  • Casting Time: 10 Minutes / 10 Seconds
  • Cost: 1 WP
  • Rolls: Manipulation + Stealth or Casting (diff 6)
  • Effects: Each item must be fairly small (a pistol, a cell phone) and the ribbon is tied around it somewhere in preparation. Then the items can be carried, and if needed, the spells last incantations can be finished, concealing them. Even a pat-down will not reveal the items once concealed in this manner.
  • Side-Effects: Botching this roll means that the shadows consume the item entirely and it is never seen again.
  • Notes: Someone using Auspex may see through this ability by contesting the roll with Perception + Auspex (diff 6).

Echoes

  • Level: 2
  • Special Requirements: A piece of black cloth to catch the sound in. Something that belongs to the target (if attuning or targeting for a live message).
  • Casting Time: 1 Minute
  • Cost: 1 WP (only if sending a live message)
  • Rolls: Manipulation + Occult or Casting (diff 6)
  • Effects: The user can trap roughly 10 seconds worth of sound per success. The echo will remain dormant until the duration expires or until triggered.
  • Side-Effects: The sounds echoed are always distorted, and there is a faint whispering that accompanies it, though most hearing it will not notice.
  • Notes: Power is used to determine duration if using it as a triggered effect, or range if using it live.

Hidden Whispers

  • Level: 3
  • Special Requirements: Fresh black petals, the essence of which must transfer to the target to form a bond via touch.
  • Casting Time: 10 Seconds
  • Cost: 1 WP (if extending the range from touch)
  • Rolls: Manipulation + Occult or Casting (diff 7)
  • Effects: The user crushes a fresh petal between their fingers and then touches the intended target. For as long as contact remains, the conversation between those connected cannot be understood from outside of it. The user can extend this range from touch to line of sight by spending a point of willpower.
  • Side-Effects: To the speaker, nothing seems unusual, but to the listener, it sounds and feels as if the other person were whispering directly into their ear.
  • Notes: The shadows only protect the conversation between the pair and not anyone else that they happen to be speaking with, though a chain could be formed between multiple people.

Jam Tech

  • Level: 3
  • Special Requirements: A black mirror, which is broken when cast. A cell phone or black screen will do as well.
  • Casting Time: 10 Minutes
  • Cost: 1 WP
  • Rolls: Manipulation + Occult or Casting (diff 7)
  • Effects: Shadows seep into and short-out electronic devices in the vicinity of the user, rendering them useless.
  • Side-Effects: Does not discriminate, so any electronic devices on the user (phone, laptop, cameras, etc) are also rendered useless.
  • Notes: Range is always a line of sight or the same building, and this can wrack up some expenses quickly. If the successes were only marginal, there is a chance that any data could still be retrieved.

Shadow Step

  • Level: 4
  • Special Requirements: Black ink, dye, or paint of some kind must be placed on the fingertips and palm of at least one hand, which is then used to push into the shadow in question.
  • Casting Time: 10 Minutes
  • Cost: 1 WP
  • Rolls: Dexterity + Shadows or Casting (diff 8)
  • Effects: The caster “falls forward” into one shadow and out of another. The caster does not have to know for sure that there is a place for them to come out of in the direction they plan to travel, but it would be wise to. The caster can only travel in a straight line in the direction they “fall” into the shadow.
  • Side-Effects: Possible suffocation and unwanted attention. There is no air within the shadows, so travel distance is limited somewhat by this factor. There are also… other things that live there that might take notice of something from outside passing through their territory.

Soften Steps

  • Level: 1
  • Special Requirements: Requires black petals.
  • Casting Time: 10 Seconds
  • Cost: None
  • Rolls: Manipulation + Occult or Casting (diff 5)
  • Effects: Each step of success grants +1 to stealth rolls for the scene.
  • Side-Effects: Cannot be used in daylight.
  • Notes: This spell mimics the straight use of the Path, with the exception that it doesn’t cause the electrical disturbances normally associated with the Path.
